It is your first time as a judge on a television show—Star Plus’ The Perfect Bride. How’s it been so far?
I haven’t yet started shooting for the show, but whatever I heard of the show impressed me. I signed it for its novelty factor. Moreover, it was just amazing to see 10 young women leaving their homes and their loved ones behind and competing to be the perfect bride. Hats off to the boys too, who will be heeding their mother’s advice in choosing the right bride. It is hard to believe that such a society still exists and there are people who follow traditional norms. Moreover, Star Plus chose me because they thought post Vivah, I epitomised the perfect bride.
But don’t you think this concept is a little too outdated since girls and boys choose their own partners these days?
I don’t think so. Even today in our society the approval of elders is still considered important.
Would you participate in a show like The Perfect Bride?
I don’t think so. I don’t think I have the guts to leave everything and impress the boy and his mother. It really takes a lot to be a part of this.
What kind of a reality show would you like to be a part of?
Nothing, I don’t think I have it in me to participate in any kind of a reality show. I would much rather be spectator.
Do you think the concept of a perfect bride even exists?
According to me, a perfect bride is the one who does not compromise on her life and ambitions, but manages to weave the family together.
Isn’t it a difficult task to handle both films and television at a given time?
Absolutely not. Being a judge on a reality show is by far the easiest task. It requires me to shoot just one day per week. The rest of the days can concentrate on my film career.
Most of your contemporaries are hosting or judging shows on television. Do you think Bollywood has found a new medium in television?
Television is such a large medium today and for the last few years, we have constantly been promoting our films through this medium too. And with Bollywood seeping into television, it only shows how powerful a medium it is.
What film projects are you currently working on?
I will start work on two projects by the end of this year. Since they are in the initial stages I will not be able to reveal much about them.
